Shortly after Alvin’s dreams of winning a lot of money had been crushed and Simon locked away the accursed machine that had dampened the promising day, Jeanette walked over to her best friend. “Simon… about what we saw…”

Simon sighed. “I know, Jeanette. I was surprised too. I mean, you and me… married? I wasn’t expecting that.”

Jeanette nodded. “The odd thing is, we don’t think about each other that way, right?”

Simon pulled her into a hug. “Don’t get me wrong, Jeanette. I do care for you deeply. But it’s more like a sibling love. Besides, we both know that your heart belongs to another.”

Jeanette smiled and hugged back. “Glad we got that sorted out.” When the hug broke off, Jeanette frowned. “Si… do you recall seeing Noah anywhere in either of those futures?”

Simon thought it over. “No… no, I didn’t.” The two smartest performers looked around for the Irishmunk. “Alvin, where did Noah go?”

Alvin held up his hand to silence Brittany, who had been yelling at him about money or some similar trivial matter. “He bolted towards the end of the poverty-stricken future.” The red-clad chipmunk sighed. “I think seeing another family so helpless really messed with the poor guy.”

“It might be more complicated than that. I’ll go look for him.” Jeanette walked up the basement stairs. When she reached the kitchen, her ears picked up music coming from the second floor.

“Like every tree
Stands on it's own
Reaching for the sky
I stand alone
I share my world
With no one else
All by myself
I stand alone”

Jeanette put her hand over her heart. “He only listens to that song when he’s heartbroken. The poor baby.” The usually shy Chipette walked up to the second floor, following the song. When she reached the door of the room shared by Noah and Theodore, she knocked. “Noah? It’s Jeanette. Are you alright?”

“No.” the response was instantaneous thanks to Noah’s Celtic powers forbidding him from lying.

“Do you want to talk about it?” Jeanette asked.

“Not really. It might make me feel worse. Or it could jeopardize our friendship.”

Jeanette shook her head. “Impossible. Nothing can do that. Not even your adorable quirk that you almost hid from me.”

“H-how-?!” Noah sputtered.

“We all share that computer, Noah. Learn to clear your browser history. Be glad I found it instead of Alvin or, the Virgin forbid, Dave.” Jeanette giggled. After a few moments of silence, Noah opened the door.

“Fine. I guess if you can be cool with my quirk, then I can be real about what I saw today.” He relented. The two sat on Noah’s bed.

“So, what’s troubling you? Is it that poverty-stricken future?” Jeanette asked.

“Partially. I mean, if I were there, I could fix it. The three things a Celt knows how to do like a pro are summon storms, determine the truth, and grow crops. But… I wasn’t there. It seemed like, in both futures, I was forgotten about… or maybe I ditched you.” The Irishmunk shuddered. “I almost hope it was the former.”

Jeanette pulled Noah close. “We would never let you be forgotten, Noah. Theodore worships you, Alvin and Simon care a lot about you, Eleanor thinks you’re cool just because you can shoot a rifle, even Brittany thinks you’re a brave person.”

Noah looked at her. “And what do you think of me?”

Jeanette blushed and looked down at her lap. She had hoped Noah would never ask that question. It was the one question that would make or break their relationship. After hesitating, Jeanette sighed. “Well, since you’ll be able to tell if I’m lying, I might as well say it.” She took Noah’s hands into hers and looked him right in his emerald green eyes. “Noah Thomas Roan, for as long as I’ve known you, I’ve thought you were the most handsome, most honorable, most amazing munk in the world. I… I love you.”

“Well, you aren’t lying, that much I can tell, but… the future…”

Jeanette smiled. “You of all people know that the future isn’t set in stone. Besides, you know that Simon and I aren’t meant to be. We’re like siblings.” Jeanette got close. “You’re much more my type. Tall, strong, Catholic to the core, and 100% pure Irish charm.”

Noah blushed. “J-Jean, I’m flattered. And, to be honest, I have the same feelings for you. But…”

Jeanette cut him off with a long, passionate kiss. “No buts, Noah, my sweet. Just hold me.” She cuddled up to the Irishmunk.

“Um, Jean, I don’t mean to sound like I’m indulging in my quirk, but… could you please take your shoes off? I just got these sheets.” Noah requested.

Jeanette grinned as she kicked off her shoes and wiggled her toes. “All you had to do was ask.”

Noah nodded. “I like your nail polish.”

“Thanks. It’s my favorite.” Jeanette replied.

Meanwhile, The other Chipmunks and Chipettes took turns looking through the keyhole at the budding romance.

“It’s about time.” Simon smiled.

“Jeanette better treat him right.” Alvin said.

“Hey, if anyone can treat Noah right, Jeanette can.” Eleanor replied.
